I think,it is now time for me to put my lifelong dream of painting into practice. Still rather reluctant to actually use paper and brush, I tried to create prototype on computer using paint. Here it is, that first clumsy attempt.

Great sketch! I use to do a lot of art on my computer with ms-paint. I have half a mind to re-blog it all at some point. Anyway I did finally make the move to acrylic paints, and haven’t done much on my computer since. If you’re wondering about the differences between the two media, I have lots of thoughts on that! But definitely, dive in and paint! 🙂

    Just dive in and do it! What’s the worst that can happen? ‘Messing up’ a painting. Well that’s going to happen a few times at first anyway, and that’s what gesso is for — to paint white over something that did not turn out how you wanted, and then use the canvas again. Oh that reminds me — you mentioned paper. Paper tends to curl up as the paint dries… “Canvas paper” is thicker and doesn’t curl as much, but still does a little.
    
    Unless there is a lot of subtlety you had in mind that this sketch doesn’t capture, this looks like a great place to start with painting! Have you decided on what kind of paint? I.e., acrylics or oils? I use acrylics. They dry faster than oils and clean up and dilute with water. There are advantages down the road with oils taking longer to dry, especially with blending, but you need turpentine to clean brushes, etc. of oil paint. But then there are “water miscible” oils, which are supposed to clean up with water. I don’t know much about those, but it sounds like it’s supposed to be the best of both…
    
    All that said, the container painting is also very hard to mess up, since it’s so free-form… 🙂
