Flames of heart..

I see the flames on a far away horizon
Curious cat,
I take the path leading me to Orange hue.
Stumbling along, on stone filled path,
Learning to avoid edges so sharp,
Singing tonelessly, whistling away,
I walk with joyful gait.
I see the beauty, beckoning me close to that brilliant glow.
As I near that source of warmth,
my heart melts, unbounded joy fills me to brim.
I long to touch that flame so special.
I extend my hand to feel the warmth,
Suddenly I am enveloped in hug of fire.
I lay down the head, feel the warmth touch my soul.
The journey not wasted, I have found the place to lay my heart.

English is not the language I think in or speak in. My mother tongue is “Gujarati”,one of the many languages that is spoken in India. I have recently started writing in English, which I will usually not do. So I would welcome feedback/criticism/suggestions.

  1. I am very impressed with you command of the English language… I do not speak any other so you have my heartfelt respect. As a poem this is nearly perfect.
    I might suggest:
    Unbounded joy
Ring of Fire (hug is to be wrapped which may what you mean so let it be)
A journey, the journey, or this journey…. English has many ways to connect thoughts
    This was beautiful…

    1. Thanks ! This gives me lots of confidence. Thanks for your suggestions. I will incorporate them. I wrote hug of fire because i thought it wrapping as you rightly guessed. I would be grateful if you could go through poems I have uploaded before and give your opinion.

  2. You are doing very well, I would not have known English is not your native language if you hadn’t told us.

  3. I too am impressed with your English. Since this seems to be the post where we all tell you so… 🙂

And this poem… wow, it reminds me of the Buddha’s fire sermon… I see the obsession of a moth to a flame here, yet with good reason too… This is very complex and thought provoking… Excellent!

    1. Thanks ! I think I need more posts where people can tell me so 🙂 :). Seriously speaking,it has been a great moral booster. I have started writing since last 4-5 months. So still unsure about the craft I have adopted!
