  1. Very good portrait – I like the way you sometimes break “rules” or go against what might be routinely expected – as here, with the arm bright but the face far more in shadow – which makes for a far more interesting and curiosity arousing shot.

This shot makes me ask myself – is he someone who keeps to the shadows, what is he thinking and who or what is the target of that sidelong and speculative gaze? Good stuff! A

    1. Thanks Adrian. He is a Japanese fashion designer and has very expressive face and hands. I really enjoyed clicking him :)!

Regarding rules, I don’t know many rules of photography. I just look through the viewfinder and if I like what I see I click. Purist may object to it but I take it as a creative liberty. What are your views?

      1. My views? Well re your words “Regarding rules, I don’t know many rules of photography. I just look through the viewfinder and if I like what I see I click. Purist may object to it but I take it as a creative liberty.” >>> I am totally in agreement, 101% with you all the way!

Bring it on! Creative liberty! We look through the viewfinder and if we like what we see, that’s it! I’ve always said this, and I will never stop saying this. And maybe that’s one of the things that make many of the images that you and I capture good – I’m sure of it. Its very good to be in contact with you, Sonali. Adrian

      2. Thank you Adrian! This is my on going argument with some of my local photographer friends. I was really worried when I exhibited my photos recently as they broke few rules! In few of my photographs I had kept the subject in the shadow, breaking a rule of keeping the subject well lighted. Shadow can be a subtle way to highlight as I read somewhere. Fortunately for me my photographs were well appreciated, mainly by painters ,sculptors and people from the art world!

I really enjoy creative liberty I can take with abstract photographs. Hope to do more of them.

I enjoy our interaction too. it is always nice to know that someone out there understands exactly what you are trying to project, present and show by your photographs. Thanks Adrian.-Sonali

      3. Hi Sonali – yes, I think the answer here is to keeping listening to those people from the art world, because your photography is certainly artistically orientated.

As always, if a photo works, it works – the “rules” are just guidelines to keep in the backs of our minds, but CERTAINLY NOT to be constantly or rigidly employed! Adrian
