First, the flatness of the floating leaves and the water, which becomes more abstract the further one goes into the background of the shot. And the brightness of the water too in the rear of the shot – these factors conspire to make the image look increasingly abstract as one goes further back into it.
Then, second, having the flower sharp and perfectly sited within this “landscape of increasing abstraction” works beautifully – and especially that large, dark, near vertical ?leaf/petal? near the bottom right hand corner, which gives the flower quite a bit of weight and substance.
