Mahatma Gandhi (Gandhiji as we remember him) stayed in my hometown Ahmedabad for 15 years of his life. His Ashram (house and workplace) is a must visit place, for all visitors to Ahmedabad. Small building, inside the complex, where he used to stay is known as “Hriday Kunj” ,abode of heart. This photograph shows room where he used to spin cotton and meet people. Starkly simple, with low mattress, spinning wheel and desk ,it reflects person himself. Room is generally kept locked and one is required to see it from lattice window. I have taken this photograph through the tiny grill of the window.
Mahatma Gandhi was a great man. We need men like him today. Few women and men of peace today. Gandhi is one of my hero’s. Thank you for reminding people. Don’t have to destroy a nation to have change.
Amazing Personality! have a look

Good picture, Sonali, and what a great man! As you say, stark simplicity – I’ve seen a picture of him with his spinning wheel – its a classic picture, by Margaret Bourke-White, monochrome, and I like it very much.
I had no idea he lived in Ahmedabad – in fact I’d never heard of Ahmedabad until I met you! Thanks for the good picture and the information! Adrian
Thanks Adrian.Picture of Margaret Bourke-White is simply stunning. The best ever.

Check this. This was my first post here. It is about Gandhi ashram in Ahmedabad. Gandhi stayed in Ahmedabad for 15 years. He was a Gujarati.
What a man he was! We badly need him in India at the moment.

Wonderful picture !!
I visited the ashram when I recently visited the city. This is truly one of the most calm and serene place I have visited anywhere.
Truly amazing place, isn’t it? Very very peaceful.
Thanks.
Calls us back to simpler times, look at the contrast between this and the photo from Japan ….
yes! But there are very few who follow his tenets today :(.
beautiful.
Thanks Puneet.
This is a great story and picture. The simplicity of the room suits him.
Thanks Elisa.
